Ideas for the south of Linz

The focus is on the postcode area 4030 in order to further promote the innovative approaches and potential in this area of Linz. Why? The EU jury was enthusiastic about the city's projects such as the Linz Innovation Tour, which has been running very successfully for several years, especially in the southern districts of Linz. The south of Linz has a lot to offer - with this ideas competition we are looking for projects that will make living together in 4030 even better.

Total prize money of EUR 50,000

In the 4030 Linz ideas competition, 1x EUR 40,000 will be awarded for a major project and 3x EUR 3,333 for small projects. We are convinced that both large and small projects can have a positive effect on the quality of life. An expert jury will review the submitted projects and select a maximum of 9 ideas (max. 3 large projects and max. 6 small projects) for the final. The people of Linz then vote via the Innovation Centre platform to decide which projects receive the prize money.

  1. 1

Submission phase: 24 November to 29 December 2024

Upload your project description including a photo to the participation platform. The better you outline what you want to realise and achieve with the prize money, the more convincing your idea will be in the competition.

  2. 2

Evaluation and jury phase: until 7 January 2025

The ideas submitted will be checked for feasibility. An expert jury selects the final entries (max 3x large projects, max 6x small projects).

  3. 3

Community voting: from 8 to 19 January 2025

In a public vote via the participation platform, the people of Linz will finally decide which idea will receive the prize money (1x EUR 40,000, 3x EUR 3,333).

Criteria for submission

Ideas can be submitted from 25 November to 29 December 2024 via the platform innovation.linz.at (registration via login).
Eligible to participate are

  • natural persons residing in Linz and
  • legal entities (e.g. associations, start-ups, SMEs) based in Linz,

who propose a project idea with implementation in the postcode area 4030 Linz and thus want to improve life for the people in this area. The projects should make a contribution to the community and fulfil the following criteria:

  • Feasibility: The planned implementation steps of the project idea are clearly presented in the submission and are realistically feasible, both in terms of time (by the end of 2025) and financially (full coverage via the prize money or secured financing if the prize money only covers a partial aspect or a milestone).

  • Potential impact: The project idea solves or alleviates a social challenge and contributes to social cohesion. The realisation of the project should reach as many people as possible (awareness-raising) and/or improve the quality of life of certain groups in a concrete and decisive way.

  • Local relevance: The implementation of the award-winning project ideas takes place exclusively in the postcode area 4030, but should also be transferable to other districts of Linz (ideas with exemplary character).

  • Degree of innovation: The submitted project ideas are completely new or contribute to a significant further development of existing projects.

  • For the general public: Your idea not only benefits individuals, but also serves the public interest. The project ideas and all participants comply with Austrian law. Project ideas with extremist, fundamentalist, xenophobic or discriminatory characteristics are excluded from the competition.

The expert jury reserves the right to send a maximum of 3 large projects and a maximum of 6 small projects to the public voting phase, depending on feasibility.
