The Innovationshauptplatz has been open since July 2, 2019. On the one hand, the Innovation Office of the City of Linz takes its name from its location at Pfarrgasse 3, directly on Linz's main square. On the other hand, it underlines its claim to be the hub for innovation projects in the Upper Austrian capital. Projects that go beyond start-ups, high-tech and the IT industry and can touch all urban areas of life, from education, the environment and social issues to culture.

Honored with the 2021 Administration Award

for the City of Linz's electronic citizen participation platform

In 2021, our department was honoured with the Austrian Public Administration Award for the first time. Our participation platform was recognised in the "Participation and Co-Creation" category. The award was presented online by Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler - Ana was visibly delighted!

Honored with the 2023 Administration Award 

for the climate-neutral industrial city of Linz 2040 / concept development through a city-wide elaboration process

In 2023, our head of department Oliver Schrot accepted the Austrian Administration Award for the development of the city's climate neutrality concept. The Linz professional fire brigade also received an award this year.

"The teams with the most innovative projects were honoured with trophies and awards. Innovation and participation are key areas of strength in the city of Linz. We are delighted to receive this prestigious award from the Federal Ministry and would first and foremost like to thank the dedicated employees of the professional fire brigade and the climate staff unit, who drive innovative ideas forward on a daily basis. The award for the Climate Task Force encourages Linz to become Austria's climate-neutral industrial city by 2040," says Mayor Klaus Luger, delighted with the awards.

Objectives of the Innovationshauptplatz:

  • Advice, mediation and accompaniment of creative people and groups, as well as their connection with supporting networks and the city of Linz
  • Promotion of innovative ideas and projects through cooperation, infrastructure, assistance, public relations
  • Development and implementation of own proposals, projects and events to establish the idea of ​​innovation in the people of Linz - preferably in public urban areas
  • Contributions to the implementation and further development of the 1st Linz Innovation Program, which was approved by the municipal council in May 2018
  • Preparation of the participation of the City of Linz in the EU Urban Competition "Innovative Capital"
